At the end of the Demon War it was revealed that Alondo’s ambition to rule Skard was one of the reasons why Duke Bruuk liberated the demon army from the Deepest Labyrinth.

Alondo is described as a someone who possesses good leadership, and who fights bravely on the battlefield. He is lacking in calm judgment, but has sharp creativity and is capable of devising good strategies.

History[]

Alondo is the son of Duke Jarbay of Venon and third in line to succeed his father. Since he was a child he always had a bad relationship with his eldest brother, the crown prince of Venon.[1] When he was young, Alondo believed Nasher to be a girl, and princess of Skard, and proposed to him. As soon as he learned that Nasher was a boy, he said he would marry Princess Reena of Skard instead. Reena, however, didn't like Alondo and repeatedly declined Alondo’s offer. Her father, Duke Bruuk, never urged her to change her mind.[2] Alondo thought he had missed his chance to obtain Skard,[3] a duchy he wanted to be the ruler of for some time.

In NRC 473, a messenger was sent to Duke Bruuk, asking again to have Reena marry Alondo, on the grounds that Reena is no longer an infant, but 14 years of age. The proposal came after Harken had gone to war against Venon, which acted as Skard's protector duchy on that occasion.[4] Some time after the proposal, Bruuk and Reena disappeared.

Later that year, Alondo's wish to become lord of Skard suddenly became true. In the absence of Duke Bruuk, Skard had come under threat of a demon invasion and Nasher, looking for ways to protect his people, had Venon annex Skard so that it could enjoy protection from the dragons’ covenant. Later, Alondo invoked the dragons’ covenant, but the territory of Skard fell to the demon army and the covenant was subsequently abandoned.[5] After losing Skard to the demons, an impatient Alondo pressed the representatives of the other duchies to invade Skard with the whole army, but nobody agreed with his proposal.[1]

Later during the Demon War, the Allied Order of Knights was formed and Alondo became one of its generals, along with Prince Barran of Harken and Prince Jester of Highland. During the war, the Holy Kingdom of Valis was preparing to invade Venon. Valis’ army commander Dorros had come to believe that Venon had allied themselves with the demon army. Alondo denied the allegations. Alondo was among those who proposed to take the attack to Valis instead.[6] Dorros and his army were completely annihilated. Alondo is not mentioned as having participated in the battle.

A volunteer force called the Hundred Heroes is formed and is led by Nasher. The force consists of volunteers from all over Lodoss, including Beld, Fahn and others. The Hundred Heroes and the Allied Order of Knights manage to reclaim territories from the demons and drive the demon army back to Skard.

Again sometime later, Alondo is present when Nasher is summoned to an audience with Duke Mycen in Overcliff Castle. Mycen has learned from a mysterious warrior-mage the truth behind the liberation of the demons; Bruuk wanted to use the demon army to conquer Lodoss and then give it to Nasher. What triggered this event, however, was that Alondo wanted to marry Princess Reena, and use their marriage to annex Skard and kill Bruuk and Nasher, but Bruuk wouldn't give Reena to him. A war would decide things, but before that, Bruuk released the demon army.[7] Though Alondo's actions triggered Bruuk, Alondo didn't think he was responsible.[8] Not only did Alondo wanted to rule Skard, with the large army gathered under his (partial) leadership, Alondo began to believe he could rule something larger than Skard, perhaps a larger city or a nation. But with the masked warrior-mage revealing the truth, that possibility had no disappeared.[8]

Nasher decides to confront the two demons who resemble Bruuk and Reena in Skard. Alondo, along with Barran, Jester, Mycen and the Six Heroes, watch along via the Mirror of Truth. They watch how Nasher is mortally wounded by the Demon King, who then promptly uses the Mirror of Truth to transport to Overcliff Castle. The Six Heroes do battle with the Demon King, while Alondo, Barran and Jester guard Duke Mycen, until the Demon King retreats.

Following this, Alondo, with the two other princes, continued to lead the Allied Order of Knights. From the liberated city of Muskett, Alondo led the Dragon Scale knights of Venon into Skard and the royal castle, but found its people had all turned into undead, and took them out, liberating the former duchy.[9] During the war council after the liberation, Alondo proposed to send half of the Allied Order of Knights, but a large number of the Hundred Heroes into the Deepest Labyrinth. According to Frey and Risen, Alondo believed the Hundred Heroes to be a dangerous force, and Flaus wondered if he was trying to reduce the force's numbers by sending such a large force into the Labyrinth.[10]

Not much later, Alondo is trying to entice the Saint to join the ranks of the duchy of Venon. Alondo's father is impressed with the Saint's gift of being able to detect doppelgängers.[8] The Saint jumped at the offer, but Alondo didn't like the Saint and added a condition of his own; the Saint and his corps had to fight in the Deepest Labyrinth, believing the chances the Saint would survive were slim. When the Hundred Heroes and a detachment of the Allied Order of Knights began their march through the labyrinth, Alondo, as well as Jester and Barran, stayed behind. Of all those who entered the labyrinth, only six survived. After the war, Alondo remained count of Skard.
