Beldia (ベルディア, Berudia) is a region in the northwest of Crystania. Originally it was on the same height as the rest of Crystania, several miles above sea level, and protected by the Gods’ Wall. Beldia was home to the animal god Barbas who wanted to oppose the ruling animal gods of Crystania and in order to do so sought the body of a strong human to seal himself into. Centuries after Crystania was formed, a fleet of people from Lodoss (Marmo), led by Ashram, were in search of new land and had found themselves outside Crystania, unable to access it because of the Gods’ Wall. Barbas saw in Ashram the strong human that he needed and promised the Marmo access to Crystania in exchange for Ashram’s body. Ashram agreed and Barbas lowered the region to sea level so that the Marmo could access it.
The Marmo began building villages and removed many of the jungles that originally made up much of the land. They gave their region the name Beldia, in honour of their former Emperor Beld.
Notes[]
- Beldia is called "Berudia" in the ADV Films translation of Legend of Crystania: The Motion Picture and Legend of Crystania: The Chaos Ring. The two animes do not mention the history behind the name of the land, thus the translators may not have been aware that the land was named after Emperor Beld.
