A New Beginning (新たなるはじまり, aratanaru hajimari) is the third and final episode of the Legend of Crystania: The Chaos Ring OVA series. Chronologically speaking, it is the final episode of any Lodoss-related anime and wraps up the story of Ashram and Pirotess.

Synopsis[]

Redon, Nasare, Obier and Kirim find themselves in Dayton castle where they are reunited with Raifan, Aderishia and Kwairde. The party heads into the castle. Obier stays behind when he notices Brasto and the two warriors resume their rivalry.

The God Killing Dragon Lord attacks Barbas, but Barbas easily defeats him. From the ground Garudi cheers for his lord, but Barbas drops a pillar from his now floating throne room which pierces Garudi, killing him. The pillar has the image of Muha, who apparently has been turned to stone by Barbas sometime before this.

The quick defeat of the God Killing Dragon Lord has left the Gods in distress. They fled to Crystania because of dragons like these, who are now easily killed by Barbas. The Gods view Barbas as brutal, but Barbas believes he has relieved the people in Crystania from the Cycle. Barbas believes there should be only one God in Crystania, himself.

In Dayton castle Redon finds Sheru and Yoof, who are on their way to the World of Chaos. Yoof asks Redon to stop Sheru from going there, but Redon wants to help Sheru find Ashram and fight Barbas. They use the Chaos Ring to enter the World of Chaos. Outside, Barbas has begun killing the animal gods and Sumash is his first victim. In the World of Chaos Redon and Sheru struggle. Sheru gets saved by Yoof, who then loses her soul to the World of Chaos, making it impossible for the party to return to the real world. Kirim enters the World of Chaos and saves Redon.

Barbas continues his attack on the animal gods, injuring Resfen and Fortino, but stops his attack when he notices Sheru and Redon have inruded the World of Chaos. Sheru and Redon have found a castle, build by Ashram from the vestages of his memory, to protect his soul from the chaos, and even against Barbas, to some extent. Inside the castle Sheru and Redon see Emperor Beld butcher Ashram endlessly, but Redon suspects it's not Beld, but Barbas. Redon grabs his sword and fights against Beld while Sheru tries to get Ashram his memory back. When she finally succeeds Beld disappears and Barbas vows to keep the party in the World of Chaos.

In the real world, Barbas begins to hunt for the last Chaos Ring. In the World of Chaos, Resfen has revived Yoof. Redon, Kirim, Yoof and Sheru immediately return to the real world, but Sheru notices Ashram stayed behind. Yoof, with the Chaos Ring, rushes outside the castle and releases the power of the Chaos Ring on Barbas. Ashram, with the Chaos Ring unleashed, appears before Barbas and defeats him.

Sheru finds Ashram's body back in the vestages of Dayton castle's throne room, deceased. In the Meeting Grounds Feness finds it ironic that they, the gods, helped destroy Crystania. Fuji believes restoration is possible. With Barbas defeated, Obier decided to end his duel with Brasto. In Dayton castle, wings sprout from Kirim's arms, revealing her to be one of the White Swan people. She explains this is her mission. Many people have died and now that the Cycle is destroyed, their souls need guidance. She can give them that guidance. Redon is upset to see another friend being taken away because of a God's task. Kirim tells Redon he has to teach everyone on Crystania. Redon asks what he could possibly teach them. Kirim responds "The strength to live. The passion of life. Just like you taught Irim and me."
