New Companions is the third episode of The Fire Demon and the third episode of the first book in The Fire Demon manga series.
Synopsis[]
In the Flaim army camp officers begin to quarrel over possible strategies against the Fire tribe. Kashue silences them, saying it's no time to quarrel and they will surely win for Flaim.[1] Later, Parn compliments Kashue on his speech and Kashue entrusts Parn with leading with a portion of his army.[2]
Kashue tells Parn about the history of the Wind and Fire tribes; they used to be one tribe but have been fighting for centuries because of a betrayal. One day, sorcerers from the Kingdom of Kastuul appeared. The tribes defended themselves by releasing the king spirits Ifrit and Jinn. Jinn's power of the Wind provided protection, while Ifrit's power of Fire destroyed the enemy forces. The Fire tribe became dazed by Kastuul's treasures and allied with them. Jinn was sealed, and the Wind tribe was forced to flee. Later, the sorcerers of Kastuul sealed Ifrit as well.[3]
Kashue proposed peace to the Fire tribe, but without avail. He tells Parn he has hidden things from the Fire tribe about Ifrit and that they don't know Ifrit's true power.[4] He tells Parn he cannot die because of his mission to defeat Karla and because of Deedlit.
At Akroyd castle Parn says goodbye to Deedlit. In the mercenary camp he meets his new officers, which include Marsh, a muscular man who wields an axe; Pseudo, a mysterious man with a harp who Parn mistakes for "a beautiful woman", and Deni, a dagger wielding mercenary.[5]
Meanwhile, the Tribe of Fire, led by Nardia, easily conquer the city of Hilt with the help of Ifrit.[6][7] Against Nardia's wishes, capturees are being gathered as sacrifices for Ifrit, as per Azumo's orders. Nardia is told not to feel bad about it; they need Ifrit if they want to defeat the Tribe of Wind.[8] The Wind and Fire tribes march onward, ready to clash with each other.[9]
