Decisive Battle in the Desert is the fourth episode of The Fire Demon and the fourth episode of the first volume of The Fire Demon manga series.
Synopsis[]
In this action-packed chapter the forces of Wind and Fire clash right at the start of the episode. Parn struggles against a Fire tribe warrior, but gets help from Marsh.[1] Kashue tells Shadam and Pasiclas to encircle the enemy and stay in close proximity melee combat,[2] so that the enemy can't use their salamanders, or Ifrit. Observing the effect of Kashue's strategies gives Parn the belief they can win the battle.[3]
Kashue observes, however, that despite being encircled and unable to use salamanders or Ifrit, the Fire tribe's morale remains strong. He wonders if they aim for something,[4] and orders Shadam and Pankrac to withdraw. Azumo, meanwhile, begins to summon Ifrit, regardless of the Tribe of Fire casualties this will cause. Kashue realizes the Tribe of Fire's ploy was to lure his forces in and orders all his forces to retreat.[5]
Because of the sacrifices to come Nardia sees herself as no different than her father—a monster, but a soldier tells her they will gladly give their lives for the destruction of the Wind tribe.[6]
Parn too tells his men to split up and retreat to Blade and believe in the divine protection of Pharis. He then turns around and charges towards the Fire tribe's army, much to the surprise of Pseudo and Marsh.[7] Nardia begins to wonder who Parn is. Mercenaries plead to Cha Za or Myrii. Only a holy knight would pray to Pharis.
Parn charges through the Fire forces until he clashes with Nardia, who promptly challenges him to a duel.
