Secret of the Tower of Dust Storms is the seventh episode of The Fire Demon and the second episode of the second volume of The Fire Demon manga series.
Synopsis[]
In Flaim, the Fire tribe has begun advancing from Hilt to Blade for a final battle with Kashue's forces.[1]
Parn, Deedlit and their mercenary followers have arrived at Alania. Because of civil war in Alania, the group decides to travel through the mountains until they eventually reach the Temple of Marfa.[2] There, Parn and Deedlit are reunited with their friend Slayn who is now married to Leylia. Slayn takes the group to meet Leylia. When Parn sees her, an image of Karla flashes by. He immediately informs Leylia and Slayn of the matters at hand and Leylia agrees to help.
Leyla tells of Kastuul, the Ancient Kingdom of Sorcery that prospered 500 years ago because of their magical powers. People in that kingdom who did not possess magic were considered slaves. At that time, in Flaim, there was a great summoner named Azzard who freed the king spirits Ifrit and Jinn, hoping they could use their power to fight against the sorcerers of Kastuul. This deal was called "the covenant". The use of these great powers came at the cost of Azzard's own life and grasslands of Flaim turned into a desert.[3] To deal with Ifrit and Jinn the Kastuulians created an artifact, the shape of a vase, and sealed the king spirits within them. Sorcerers of Kastuul convinced members of each tribe that the other tribe had betrayed them, so that their attention would turn to each other and no longer Kastuul.[4] Karla was responsible for breaking Ifrit's seal and leading Azumo to him.
Deedlit wonders how Azumo is able to use the covenant. Leylia explains that is because he meets the two conditions; being able to speak with spirits and to be a descendant of Azzard.[5] To be able to beat Ifrit, a new covenant with Ifrit and Jinn needs to be established. However, like with Azzard, the summoner who establishes the new covenant risks his or her life. Deedlit, being the group's only summoner, takes up the task and the group, with Slayn and Leylia, heads towards the Tower of Dust Storms.[6] On their way the group is attacked by a sandworm, but its easily killed by Parn with some help by Deedlit.
Eventually the group arrives at the Tower of Dust Storms. Once inside, Marsh triggers a trap which releases several wraiths who fly straight towards Pseudo. Deni rushes in, sacrificing himself for Pseudo. Pseudo cries his name, "Sardi", revealing to the others that Deni wasn't his real name. Pseudo reveals his own name is actually Force and he explains he and Sardi were originally orphans from the Thieves’ Guild and they were on a mission to avenge the death of their foster father, the leader of the Thieves’ Guild.[7] Eventually the group finds a sealed room.
