Decisive Battle Between Fire and Wind is the eighth and final episode of The Fire Demon and the third episode of the second volume of The Fire Demon manga series.

Synopsis[]

In Flaim, near Blade, the forces of the Fire and Wind tribes have begun their battle. Kashue prays for Parn to return quickly. As the battle ensues Nardia orders the use of salamanders. One salamander attacks Kashue from behind, but he is saved at the last moment by Parn. Slayn uses his magic to deal with the remaining salamanders. Parn tells Kashue what he has learned: the battle was arranged by the Kastuulians many centuries ago.[1]

Azumo summons Ifrit. In response, Leylia casts a spell to protect against fire on the Wind tribe forces.[2] Deedlit rushes to the enemy forces. In the Tower of Dust Storms she managed to beat Jinn's trial and establish a new covenant with him. Deedlit approaches Ifrit and tells him of the new covenant she established. Ifrit does not believe her. In response she summons Jinn. Azumo and Nardia realise the covenant is broken and they can no longer rely on Ifrit. Nardia, just one battle away from a complete victory for her tribe, orders her tribe to attack Kashue.[3] Before she reaches Kashue, however, archers of the Tribe of Wind shoot her horse, causing Nardia to fall and effectively lose the battle. Kashue declares the battle to be over. The king spirits accept the new covenant and disappear. With the two spirits free, the land of Flaim will become fertile again.

Kashue tells the soldiers nobody was defeated in this battle. The two tribes were originally one and will work as one again to restore Flaim. Kashue asks Nardia if she accepts his offer, but Nardia believes she has killed too many people. She gives her people one last order; to follow King Kashue. All past hatred is on her. Nardia lets herself get struck by Ifrit's flame and dies. Ifrit's flame transforms into Phoenix, a legendary bird that appears once every 500 years and controls the power of rebirth.[4]

Kashue asks Parn if he is going to continue to pursue Karla. Parn says he has changed. He wants to help settle the many wars on Lodoss first. Once that is done, Karla has no place to go and it as it that moment he will face her.[5]
