Fahn (ファーン) was the King of Valis and one of six legendary heroes who brought a temporary peace to Lodoss by slaying the Demon King. Now, 30 years later, he faces his former ally, Beld of Marmo, and his Holy Sword must clash with Soul Crusher, the Demon Sword. The two swords will finally meet to decide the fate of the War of Heroes, and ultimately, he and Beld will both fall. The war ends with nothing gained and two once-great heroes lost.
History[]
A renowned knight of Valis, Fahn rose to lead the holy knights at a young age. However, his good name was sullied when he was identified stealing the holy relics of Valis; the holy armour, shield, and sword of Falis. He was not the thief though; a doppleganger had taken on his appearance to steal the items for the means to a demonic plot. Seeking help from the Falis temple, Fahn was introduced to Flaus, and from there, he joined the quest to slay the Demon King and would become one of the Six Heroes along with Beld, Wort, Flaibe, Neese, and the nameless sorceress.
Before the War of the Demon King, Fahn was already a highly respected knight, but his new hero status easily won him the succession of the Valis throne after the death of the former king. Valis, unlike other nations, does not rely on bloodline to chose the king; instead, the king is traditionally chosen from the knighthood. Fahn later married, and his daughter Fianna was born.
Like Beld, he too had been inspired by Flaus to unite Lodoss in peace. However, while Beld began to build an empire on Marmo through force, Fahn was uniting Lodoss through diplomacy.
Not long after Fianna’s birth, the people of the deserts to the north—what is now Flaim—came demanding a sacrifice to subdue the dragon Shooting Star. Their sacrifice of chose was the baby princess Fianna. With a heavy heart, Fahn agreed to sacrifice his daughter for the greater good, and handed her over to the envoy. However, one of his knights, Tessius, approached him in secret to lay out a mission to rescue Fianna in which he would take all the blame, leaving Fahn innocent of breaking the agreement. Fahn agreed, and Tessius rescued Fianna. The plan went perfectly, but led to civil war and the eventual independence of Flaim. As punishment for disobedience, Tessius was sent to the front lines where he died in dishonour.
Fahn carried the guilt of Tessius’s death on his shoulders from then on, and the secret was kept until his son, Parn, came to Valis after rescuing Fianna from Karla. Only then was the truth revealed and Tessius’s honour restored.
Fahn was eventually reunited with Beld, but this time as enemies. As Beld made his move to conquer Lodoss, his path brought him to Valis where Fahn met him on the battlefield. The two dueled, but eventually Fahn fell to Beld’s blade. However, as Beld rose victorious, an arrow struck him in the shoulder, and Kashue, King of Flaim and Fahn’s ally, took opportunity to slay Beld while his guard was down.
