Fourth (フォース, Fōsu), also known by his alias Pseudo (シュード, Shūdo), was an orphan from Raiden who was adopted by the Thieves’ Guild. When the head of the Thieves’ Guild, who Fourth considered his father, was murdered, Fourth, with Sardi, decided to become mercenaries, in a quest to kill the person who killed their adoptive father. This led them to meet Parn in Flaim and fight alongside him and Kashue against the Fire tribe.
He was given his name because he was the fourth child adopted by his adoptive father.[1]
Appearance[]
Fourth is an attractive man with long blonde hair, so beautiful that he is easily mistaken for a woman at times.
History[]
Fourth was an orphan on the streets of Raiden. At a young age he was taken in by the Thieves’ Guild, along with Sardi, a boy a little older than him. They were raised by the head of the guild. He and Sardi, though not related by blood, considered themselves brothers, and the guildmaster their father. When their father was assassinated, the two boys swore vengeance and set out on a quest to kill the man who slew their father. This quest led them to impersonate mercenaries; adopting the aliases “Pseudo” and “Deni”.[2]
Their search as mercenaries brought them to the deserts of Flaim, where they were hired by the Flaim army to fight against the Fire tribe. They, along with a mercenary named Marsh, were placed under the command of Parn and fought alongside him throughout the war.[3]
While they helped Parn and Deedlit at the Tower of Dust Storms so Deedlit could forge a new covenant with Jinn, the group tripped a trap and Sardi sacrificed himself to protect Force. In the heat of the moment, Fourth screamed Sardi’s real name, and revealed his true identity to the group.[4]
Years later, Fourth has returned to Raiden where he now heads the local Thieves’ Guild from a secret back room in the Marine Dragon Restaurant.
Notes[]
- Fourth is called Phorse in the English release of the Welcome to Lodoss Island! manga, and his nickname "Pseudo" is translated as "Shude". Phorse seems to be an incorrect translation, because RPG Replay II explains Fourth received his name from the guild master, who adopted him as his fourth son.[5]
