Legend of Lodoss 5: Saint of the Supreme God (dubbed "the Lady of Pharis" on the intertitle-page of the Japanese release) is a light novel written by Ryo Mizuno and illustrated by Akihiro Yamada. It is the seventh and final novel in the Legend of Lodoss novel series.

Mizuno originally thought of releasing it as a side-story to Legend of Lodoss, after protagonist Nasher's story had come to a conclusion in The Legendary Hero, but decided to incorporate it as a sequel because it concludes the Demon War.[2] The main character has switched from Nasher to Flaus.[2] In his afterword Mizuno restates that there is no doubt that Legend of Lodoss was completed in four volumes.

Synopsis[]

The truth behind the demons' liberation is spreading throughout Lodoss as the allied forces complete their preparations for the final battle against the demon army. The three princes Alondo, Barran and Jester lead the Allied Order of Knights, while the Hundred Heroes are led by Frey and Risen. They have divided the Hundred Heroes into two Hero corps. Frey's corps is joined by Fahn, Flaibe and Neese, while Risen's corps is joined by Beld, Flaus and Wort. They march to the fallen duchy of Skard where they are opposed by undead enemies—former civilians, knights and other people of Skard all slain by the Demon King and reanimated as corpses.[3]

As the heroes fight their way through the enemy forces, they enter Grain Hold castle. There, they encounter Duke Bruuk, Princess Reena, and Prince Nasher, but they turn out to be illusions created by a demon. Before Beld slays the demon, Nasher's illusion tells the heroes that the Demon King is waiting for them in the deepest depths of his labyrinth.[4]

Guided by Flaibe, the heroes navigate through the tunnels until they find the fourth demon general near the throne. This time, not Beld, but Flaibe duels the demon general, while some dwarves of the Iron Kingdom deal with the demon general's minions. With his mithril armour, Flaibe is able to take several blows from the demon general, until he manages to dismember on of the demon's legs. The demon falls on the floor, and Flaibe, with two dwarven comrades, chop away at the demon until nothing recognizable remains.[5]

Elsewhere in the labyrinth, the Saint is less fortunate. He and his troop encounter a bunch of demons. His fighting man Hasara tells the Saint to turn back, while he and the rest of the troop fight the demons. On his way back, the Saint encounters another demon, but is led to safety by a dark-haired girl in a white robe, who he believes to be Neese. He follows the girl until they are alone. The girl reveals herself to be the Demon King and has the Saint remember who he truly is: a doppelgänger. When his troop arrives a while later, they fid a doppelgänger's corpse in the Saint's clothes, but never truly understand what has happened.[6]

Meanwhile, Frey and Risen manage to reach the tenth and final floor, clearing the other floors on their way. Of their group, only the bard Yuri and one other (heavily injured) knight survived. They decide to head back to meet with the others. The knight stays behind. They meet Flaus, Beld, Fahn, Flaibe, Neese, Wort and the masked warrior-mage on the ninth floor.[7] The twins ask Neese to heal the injured knight and then decide to leave the labyrinth, leaving the final battle to the seven heroes. On their way out, Frey, Risen and Yuri encounter a group of five demons and were never seen again.[8]

The seven heroes reach the final floor, but find the injured knight had passed away. Of the Hundred Heroes, they are now the last ones left. The enter the Hall of the Demon King and engage in the final battle. Wort casts a spell that nullifies all magic, making it a physical encounter. Beld, Fahn, Flaibe and Flaus pincer the Demon King, but fail to get the upper hand. Any injury the Demon King sustains, is quickly healed with its regenerative abilities. As the battle goes on, Wort lifts the anti-magic spell, allowing Neese and the masked warrior-mage to cast supportive magic. Wort tries to help by summoning an archdemon, but the Demon King, in turn, uses his magic to control the archdemon, causing Wort to undo the summoning.

As the battle drags on without any progress, the four warriors switch tactics and aim for the Sword of the Demon King. When the Demon King lifts his sword to strike Beld, Flaus rushes inbetween them and receives the strike meant for Beld right in her chest. Fahn uses the momentum to strike the Demon King with his Sword of Law, dismembering one of the demon's arms. Beld then retrieves the Demon Sword from Flaus' chest and strikes the Demon King with, killing him.[9] Flaus did not survive the injury. She was later recognized as a saint by the Pharis sect. Beld, Fahn, Flaibe, Neese, Wort and the warrior-mage were praised as the Six Heroes.
