Synopsis[]
Episode 1 - The birth of a warrior-mage[]
Twenty-year-old Lucent is training as a member of the Order of Warrior-mages in Alania. He once dropped out of the Academy of Sages, then successfully completed training as a knight, and is now being inducted into the Academy of Sages as a warrior-mage by Sir McMason, the captain of the warrior-mages.
At the academy, Sir McMason takes Lucent to the sorcerer Gradical. The two sit down facing Gradical, who then begins to chant an incantation that causes Lucent to go unconscious. While unconscious, Lucent sees four heavy wooden doors, one leading to an armoury, another to a room with weaponry, a third filled with books and the fourth has an Iron Web knight with Alania's coat of arms. When Lucent returns to the main room, he finds a fifth door has appeared. When he enters the door, the Iron Web knight tells Lucent he has chosen being a knight, over weapons, armour and knowledge. Lucent then awakens.
Gradical excuses himself, while his seventeen-your-old student Ferio brings tea. Gradical asks Ferio about a box of jewels she was to bring to him from the treasury. The box contained an important item and that the entire academy would be sealed off until the culprit is discovered. Everyone is gathered in the waiting room. A dwarf called Malmus, and an elf called Winifred are suspicious of each other. Malmus is a dwarf from the Iron Kingdom with a talent for cartography. He promised his king to make a map of all the dwarven underground tunnels while investigating the demon situation. He was given five jewels by his king. He is joined by Lister, who learns that the tunnels emerge in three places in Alania; in the capital city Alan, in the Forest of No Return, and near the Wind and Fire Desert. Winifred is an elf from the Mirror Forest. She left her home to track down Thiel.
Suddenly, a scream is heard from Gradical's study. Everyone rushes in and they find Sir McMason standing above Gradical, whose head is caved in. McMason claims to have found Gradical like this, but a large jewel is discovered in McMason's bosom. Suddenly, a one-armed golem in the study comes to life and attacks Lucent.
Episode 2 - Those who hide beneath the earth[]
Everyone groups together the fight the golem, who is eventually defeated by Lister. McMason is confined to a room and everybody is forbidden to leave the academy. Malmus explains his mission, the demon situation in Moss, and how the tunnels there are connected to Alania. Maybe a demon killed Gradical? After some investigation, the metal golem's arm is determined as the murder weapon and a small puncture is discovered on Gradical's body, suggesting he was poisoned. Ferio notices the absence of a burn mark on Gradical's army, and the party begins to suspect the death.
Suddenly, a loud bang is heard from the basement. Once there, the party finds a large hole in the ground. They use a rope ladder to descend. The party finds a severed arm with clawed fingers and human footprints. They follow the footprints to a broken wall. From behind the wall they hear the voices of Gradical and someone who may be Thiel.
Episode 3 - Escape from Alan[]
When asked about Sir McMason, Gradical says the warrior-mages have a dark past and shouldn't exist. He also states he helped the demons breach the city, and that he, like the great summoner-sorcerer Aznadeer before him, is able to subjugate the Demon King. Gradical tasks Lucent to deliver him a sword called “Conquistador”, a sword that symbolises leadership of the Order of Warrior-mages, to the village of Bido. In return, Gradical will remove the stigma on Sir McMason.
Winifred calls out to Thiel, but Thiel replies he is now the Kastuulian sorcerer Prestodivea, after Thiel used too much of his power to defend the Mirror Forest. When the two sorcerers leave, a crystal bug attacks the party. After Winifred kills it, Ferio finds a large jewel from the box in the academy. When the party returns, they find Alan under attack by demons and the city closed. Lucent steals Conquistador from McMason's room and escape Alan.
Episode 4 - Bride of Deimos (part I)[]
Lucent and the others head to Bido, just north of Norvis. On the road, they meet a caravan of carriages, led by a man named Dee, who are on their way to Norvis. The party decides to assist the caravan on their journey, and help them beat a band of goblins and some Marfa bandits along the way. At dawn, they make a stop at Seton, and are informed the road is closed because the Conquistador has been stolen. They are also informed demons have been sighted and a man named Scarface is leading a group of bandits in the area, masquerading as Marfa followers.
The next morning, Ferio is missing and a note is found on her bed. The note is from Scarface and reads he has taken Ferio as his bride. Lucent and the others go after her.
Episode 5 - Bride of Deimos (part II)[]
Ferio learns she is held captive in a village called Arkyle, an old village from the time of the ancient kingdom of Kastuul. According to an elderly woman, the village was cursed by a demon 500 years ago and no female has been born in the village since. The village is named after Arkyle, the warrior priest who defeated the demon by petrifying it. The petrified demon general still stands in the village's central square.
Malmus and the others are gathering information on the bandits masquerading as Marfa followers and, via solving a clue about two colours meeting, the party heads to a village near where the Red and Green rivers meet. As they near the valley where the village is, they are spotted by Scarface and captured. They are escorted to the village and reunited with Ferio.
Not much later, around thirty demons are spotted preparing to attack the village. Malmus suggests to protect the demon general statue, but Ferio states its fake and the real demon general is in the nearby cave. The party, with Scarface, decide to enter it, but are later caught up by the demons, but half of the demons are lesser demons. A battle ensues and the party emerges victorious. With his village destroyed, Scarface wants to join Lucent and the others. Before their departure, Scarface destroys the cave, burying the demon general and an ancient tradition.
Episode 6 - The Magus’ secret[]
The party and the caravan finally arrive in Norvis in the west of Alania. From a messenger from the academy they learn that Gradical's father, called Hoteson, lives in Norvis. Hoteson might know why Gradical holds a grudge against warrior-mages.
Malmus discovers one of the entrances to the dwarven tunnels. Inside, the encounter a large sandworm and manage to petrify it. The petrified body of the sandworm seals the entrance so no demons can use it.
From Hoteson, the party learns that Gradical's biological father, Rashid, was a warrior-mage who was falsely accused of instigating a rebellion among warrior-mages. Because of this, he was beheaded with the Conquistador. Gradical only learned of this five years ago.
Before the party departs to Bido, they learn that they need a pass certificate issued by wealthy local merchant Bomberna before they can enter. Dee happens to have a meeting with Bomberna the next day.
Episode 7 - City of demons[]
The next day, the party witnesses Bomberna strangle Dee, while Bomberna's butler transforms into a demon. The party rushes to Dee's aid, and a couple more demons arrive. Lucent shines, and the party manages to defeat the demons. The incident is reported to the authorities, so they can investigate it. The party then decides to go to Bido.
Episode 8 - The truth revealed[]
In Bido, the party enters a mine, where they eventually meet Gradical, Prestodivea and dragon’s tooth warriors. Gradical demands the Conquistador sword, but Lucent doesn't believe Gradical will lift the stigma on Sir McMason. Gradical offers a book that will prove McMason's innocence, and a manuscript of the Book of the Demon King in exchange for the sword. He reveals that he intends to summon another demon king from the Netherworld and that, unlike the Duke of Skard, he will be able to control it. With the demons under his control, he plans to rule over all of Lodoss and revive the age of the ancient kingdom of Kastuul. Winifred suspects it is Prestodivea who is behind the scheme.
Apparently, Gradical doesn't need the Conquistador specifically, but he needs a magical item and he despises warrior-mages. Suddenly, a rumbling occurs that scares the sorcerers away.
Episode 9 - Resurrection and rebirth[]
Three large demons appear and they kill Lucent. The party manages to escape with his body and decide to visit the Magician’s Guild in Norvis. There, the party manages to convince the mages to allow them to visit the Temple of Marfa, where the succesfully resurrect Lucent.
From Headmaster Larcus the party learns that Gradical's mother Emma is still alive and that she may be Gradical's intended sacrifice to summon and control a demon king. Lucent, equipped with Conquistador, heads to Zaxon with several warrior-mages to help release several warrior-mages captured there. Malmus and the others go to Tarba, where Emma resides, and plan to protect her. They will meet again at the Temple of Marfa in Tarba.
Episode 10 - The mystery of the Book of the Demon King[]
Headmaster Larcus discovers a passage in the Book of the Demon King that says there are two sites to summon a demon king from; one in the south, and one in the north in a valley with four ridges. The information is sent to Lucent, who then heads north to Tarba to meet with Malmus and the others. Malmus takes the information to the Stone King, who agrees to send his elite royal guard into battle.
Meanwhile, Winifred finds a note from Thiel on a black cat. Thiel tells Winifred to focus on Prestodivea rather than Gradical.
Malmus learns from his father where the four ridged valley is. When the party arrives at the valley, they see a stone stage surrounded by thirty demons and four golems. At that moment, an army of archdemons is seen approaching the stage from the distance. The party uses the momentum to attack and defeat the distracted thirty demons. Each of the four golems asks the party a question, which they manage to answer just in time before the army of archdemons arrive, and they are teleported to the Labyrinth of Time.
Episode 11 - Labyrinth of Time[]
Lucent and the others find themselves in a serene rural field, but moments later the scenery distorts and the party finds themselves in Tarba. The scenery distorts again and the party finds themselves in Alan, two weeks in future. At this point in time, the demon army appears to be led by Lucent. The party meets with Headmaster Larcus, who hands Lucent a plan of the labyrinth leading to the Demon King's shrine.
Lucent returns to his own time and finds himself in a stone labyrinth. With Larcus' plan, he is able to navigate through it until he reaches an area with a magic circle and inside the circle stand Gradical and Prestodivea (in Thiel's body), standing over Gradical's mother Emma and about to behead her.
Episode 12 - Demon summoning[]
Lucent tries to intervene, but his attack is parried by Prestodivea. Gradical kills Emma, and her blood flows into the magic circle. Later, Lucent opens his eyes and finds himself floating in the air. He is experiencing an out-of-body-experience. He sees the two sorcerers casting spells on a young woman, who appears to be the Demon King. Just then, Lucent sees his companions enter the room. Prestodivea reveals he will take the Demon King's body for himself.
Ferio destroys the magic circle, causing all souls to return to their bodies. Thiel's soul returns to his body, but the souls of the two sorcerers are drawn into the corpse of Emma, who begins to look more youthful until she looks like the young girl Lucent saw in his out-of-body-experience. She reaches into her chest and pulls out a large scythe, ready to do battle. A fierce battle ensues, but the Demon King seems to be in an imperfect form and is hacked into pieces.
A new-born baby emerges from the bloody mass. Though it could be the Demon King reborn, the party doesn't slay it. Suddenly, a black consciousness enters Lucent, and he begins attacking his companions. Lister, using the power of Arkyle, brandishes his flail and petrifies him. The statue of Lucent, the hero who defeated the second Demon King, is left sealed in the shrine.
Winifred and Thiel return to the Mirror Forest, but a month later Thiel leaves stating he has unfinished business. Malmus and Lister join the Hundred Heroes and challenge the Deepest Labyrinth, but are said to have never returned. Ferio, Scarface and the infant return to the Academy of Sages.
