From 1989 to 1993 six cassette books (カセットブック, kasetto bukku) of Record of Lodoss War (ロードス島戦記, rōdosu-tō senki) were released. The cassette books were audio readings of side-stories to the The Grey Witch and The Demon Dragon of Fire Dragon Mountain novels not present in the novels, while others were early versions of stories later published in Deedlit’s Tale and one in Record of Lodoss War Next Generation: Inheritors of the Flame.

The first five cassette books were later re-released on CD as part of the Record of Lodoss War Special CD Package, which also included a CD called the “Record of Lodoss War Sound Collection” (ロードス島戦記 サウンドコレクション, rōdosu-tō senki saundo korekushon), a soundtrack consisting of 38 tracks.

The soundtrack for the cassette books was composed by Yoshiyuki Ito, sung by Masumi Ito and was released on CD on 22 September 1993. It was called “Record of Lodoss War: Mistrel’s Memory of Lodoss” and featured 13 tracks.
