Smeddy (スメディ, Sumedi) was a Marmo mercenary, an exceptionally large and muscular woman who could rival any man in combat. For all her bulk though, she did still have some feminine features and was noted as being very attractive by some of her fellows. It is possible that she is of the Marmo barbarian tribes.

Smeddy was hired along with the mercenary Gilram by Ashram in his quest for the Scepter of Domination. They were accompanied by the sorcerer Groder, the Falaris priest Gaberra, and the dark elf Astar. Later, they were joined by Hobb, a Myrii priest whom Ashram had convinced to join them. They helped Ashram slay the dragon Bramd, and then they moved on to Raiden where they would attack another dragon, Abram. While acquiring the services of pirates, they were ambushed by several adventurers seeking to stop them; Shiris, Orson, Cecil, and Maar. However, they were easily subdued and taken captive, though Gilram was killed by Orson before the berserker was subdued by Ashram’s Demon Sword “Soul Crusher”. After this fight, Smeddy and Shiris developed an unspoken rivalry, as both were female warriors.

After Abram was slain and the treasure they sought was not found, they set sail back to the pirate cove where along the way the grassrunner bard Maar escaped with the Soul Crystal Ball they had taken from Abram’s lair, but in doing so, he had abandoned his comrades to their fates. When they returned to the island, they were attacked yet again, but this time by Shiris and Orson’s allies; King Kashue, Parn, Deedlit, Slayn, and Leylia. Their captives were freed, but Ashram and his group managed to escape.

Ashram and his company traveled to Fire Dragon Mountain to slay Shooting Star where they crossed paths with Kashue again. Outside the entrance of the caves, the two opposing groups faced off while their leaders went into the caverns to fight the dragon. Smeddy and Shiris fought again, and before Smeddy could finish off the red-haired mercenary, Orson went berserk and ran Smeddy through, but not before sustaining a fatal stab of his own. Smeddy died, as did Orson soon afterward.

Notes[]

The idea to include a female warrior in Ashram's group came from Yutaka Izubuchi, the illustrator of the Record of Lodoss War novels.[1]
